OPHTHALMOLOGY RESIDENCY TRAINING PROGRAM
Although Mongolia graduates 36 ophthalmologists per annum few are able to provide a complete range of eye care services. The goal is to graduate comprehensive ophthalmologist who will return to their provinces and have the ability to provide for a wide range of eye care needs including cataract surgery. This project will improve access to eye care for all Mongolians by bringing care “closer to home” and reducing the distance that the patients have to travel in order to obtain care.
The first graduating class from the First Hospital will be in 2025.
Residency structure, curriculum development and a process for the selection of residents has been established. Continued support for the graduates will be provided when they return to their provinces.
